Pacifica-California Corporation has purchased assisted-living facilities in several states. The facility that I am most experienced with, is located in Sun City Center/Ruskin, Fl.

In the past few years, the facility has changed its name three times. The same corporation owns the facility, when it was inspected by AHCA under the name of Sun City Retirement Residence.

As with all matters involving the survival of a loved-one placed in senior care facilities, you need to do your research. Assisted-living facilities as well as nursing homes are in the business of care for a profit. Money is charged and papers are signed.

Sometimes, the entry fee is the amount equal to the equity in your home, once you sell it. When, the budgets get tight, the food supply dwindles. The staff is not paid decent wages and quality people leave the sites. Medicines get switched or "lost". Personal possessions disappear. Physical and emotional abuse occurs.

And.............good luck! My relative died a very agonizing painful death, finally because of a nursing home in Manatee County. In a two year period, she was starved, slapped, threatened and ignored as to her needs. She was stolen from and not treated with respect.

At all costs, if I had an opportunity to start all over again, she would NOT have gone into any facility whether it be an assisted-living facility or a nursing home.
